Canada’s Tourism Industry

Tucked away up North, the hat to the United Sates, the country that is constantly bombarded by jokes, Canada sits and waits as the tourism industry grows.

According to a report done on Canada’s tourism industry in 2014, tourism accounted for a revenue of $88.5 billion, with $17.2 billion coming from international tourists. These numbers are up from the 2013 statistics which put revenue from tourism at $84.5 billion dollars, with $16.4 billion generated from international tourists.

With 90% of Canadians living within 161 kilometres (100 miles) of the U.S boarder, it has lead to them becoming our biggest trading partner with an estimated $1 million traded every minute.  This in turn has benefited the two countries equally in regards to tourism between the two countries being higher than anywhere else in the world.

With the Canadian dollar being very weak lately, tourists from Europe and Australia are able to stay in Canada for cheaper, but in turn has caused Canadians to spend far more money when traveling abroad.

As seen below in the infographic, tourism in Canada in 2015 was a huge money maker, yet costs tourists traveling abroad much more money in the long run.
